Richard Hawley

Richard Hawley

7th - 8th Grade Teacher

My name is Richard Hawley. I am 37 years old and grew up in Central Valley. I am married and have five children, four girls and one boy.

I graduated from South Sevier High School and then attended Snow College in Ephraim. After serving a two year mission for the LDS church, I returned and finished my Associate of Science degree at Snow College Richfield campus. I then attended Utah State University where I earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. After graduating with my degree, I was hired by the Division of Juvenile Justice Services as a line-staff counselor at Wasatch Youth Center, a secure facility where I worked with delinquent adolescents. I ran treatment groups and assisted licensed professional counselors with the rehabilitation of these youth and their re-entry into society. While I was working on my degree in Psychology, I was particularly interested in child development and decided to pursue a Master's degree in Education and earn my teaching certificate. I began attending Weber State University and earned my license in 2011. I am in the process of completing my thesis and am set to graduate from Weber State in Spring 2017. I was hired by the Davis School District at Antelope Elmentary School to teach P.E. during the 2011-2012 school year. I continued to teach P.E. the following year and was asked by the administration to direct the schools Title 1 before/after school program. I wanted to get into the classroom and began looking for open positions within the Davis School District. I was hired to teach 5th grade at Eagle Bay Elementary. I also served as the schools assistant webmaster and was a lead advisor in the schools STEM club. I am excited about the opportunity to work for Athenian eAcademy and bring my experience and skills to help my students succeed.

My personal interests include cycling, both road and mountain, skiing, snowboarding, camping, and motorcycles. I enjoy reading and serving in my church and community. I love being involved in the scouting program and earned my eagle scout award as a youth. I love my family and the support they give to me.

As an educator at Athenian eAcademy, I will build the relationships and trust that are imparitive in order to create a learning environment that will help my students use the talents they have and value themselves and each other as unique individuals that have much to offer to their community and the world if they are willing to work for it.
