Singapore Math-Primary Mathmatics

K-8th

Singapore is focused on mastery through sequencing of concepts. It features concrete, pictorial, and abstract progression using number bonds, bar modeling, and mental math. Teaching Textbooks

3rd-12th

Spiral math instruction, engaging format, teaches in a friendly/non-overwhelming manner. This is one of the most popular homeschool math options "Down-to-earth, audiovisual step-by-step explanations for every single one of the almost 3,500 problems in the book. Using a Teaching Textbook™ is like having a friendly tutor available at the push of a button...because the Teaching Textbook™ series was designed for independent learners, it introduces proper terminology only after first presenting the underlying concept in plain language. Of course, the series includes all the terms that students need to know for important standardized tests such as the SAT and ACT, but our textbooks do not bog the reader down in highly technical language until students are ready to digest it." Can count for the online program requirement.

Math Inspirations

K-12th

Math Inspirations is a spectacular program that applies the scientific method to mathematics. Students get to create their own math theorems book over time.

Each topic starts with real life story problems. Students solve them through logic and manipulatives, and develop their own way to do them. (The order of the problems is pure genius and supports students in growing in the concept.) After that, students teach their method to someone else, and use that experience to create a hypothesis. Then they apply their hypothesis to a group of problems, and refine it into a theorem. Students keep a record of their unique theorems in a math notebook.

This curriculum includes a virtual class for parents to help us become better at teaching math. It also includes a book of math games and logic puzzles.

“Math is a creative art form of problem solving, pattern finding, and hypothesis creation. We will see math everywhere if we are paying attention. The best way for students to learn and retain is to allow them to discover. Give them opportunities and experiences that put them in control of solving patterns, finding patterns, and creating and testing hypotheses.” -Emily Dyke, founder of Math Inspirations.
