Foreign Languages

Karolina Lovejoy grew up in Poland. Very early in her life she discovered her

passion for foreign languages and cultures. While working on her

undergraduate degree in Modern Languages at UAM University in Poznan she

spent 1 academic year in St. Petersburg, Russia and 1 semester at

Fachhochschule Pforzheim, Germany. Still as a student she founded a travel

office specializing in language immersion programs in Russia and Ukraine. After

graduation she married a US Army officer and moved to the United States.

During her time as a military spouse she earned a Master's Degree in Political

Science at Kansas State University and another Master's Degree at the

University of Virginia in Slavic Languages and Literatures where she was

awarded a prestigious Presidential Fellowship for her research in foreign

languages. She continued her passion for learning and teaching languages as

she taught at language schools in Germany and Poland as well as at Tendring

Technical College in Colchester, England. She started teaching foreign

languages at UMA in 2014 and at Athenian eAcademy in 2015. Ms. Lovejoy is

currently certified to teach Russian, German, French, Spanish (pending), ESL

and Social Studies. She is moreover pursuing her doctoral degree as a distance

student at a joint Polish-French European Studies program. She enjoys

spending time with her two daughters, Zofia and Veronika, playing violin,

running, dancing and sharing her passion for foreign language immersion.
