Dr. Eldon L. McMurray has taught college reading and learning courses for 18 years. The heart of his educational philosophy values individuality embraces multiple perspectives and places high importance on meeting the needs of each of his students. Dr. McMurray believes that all students are capable of individual learners regardless of age, or area of study. He embraces the idea that much of the learning comes from within each student. Eldon is fascinated with life and he is always learning.

Dr. McMurray is a university professor, a textbook co-author, a scholar of brain active learning, a researcher of best practices for teaching and learning effectiveness, and an award-winning educator. He served on the Utah Governor’s Board for Academic Literacy. He has taught Reading and Critical Thinking, Power Reading and Learning Strategies, and Speed Reading at UVU. He served there as the Director of the Faculty Center for Teaching Excellence., Eldon was the lead instructor for the College Reading and Student Success Courses at Mount Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon.

Eldon has coauthored a speed reading text titled: Accelerated Reading for Students and Professionals and has co-authored a text for preparing student mentors titled: The Peer Mentor Companion. He is a co-author of this book with textbook and test-taking strategies and success stories for aiding students in understanding and remembering the most important information in their textbooks.

Dr. McMurrray has been a keynote speaker and presenter at a number of national conferences. His Dissertation Topic for his doctorate is titled: “The Impact of Metacognitive Reading Instruction on Student Self-efficacy”. He served on a co-author writing team for Becoming a Master Student, one of the most well-known and widely used study-skills texts. 

Some of the awards that Dr. McMurray has received are the Jon and Karen Huntsman Jr. Award for Excellence in Education and the Teaching Excellence Award for his school at UVSC.  After 32 years of service to the boys in his communities, Eldon was awarded the Silver Beaver Award from the Boys Scouts of America. He is a certified and experienced instructor for The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People and can be considered a seasoned educator and a dedicated practitioner. Besides his family, teaching and students are among his greatest loves.
